Josh Shaw, Artistic Director of the Pacific Opera Project, channeled his inner hipster in this vintage Canadian Tux at the company’s recent performance of La Boheme at the historic Ebell Club of Highland Park. If they do it again, you must go – impressive performances with some hilarious translations, making this version a modern day tale of hipster love on the east side of Los Angeles, instead of the classic story in Paris. Last week I had the pleasure of seeing Minneapolis’s Poliça play an intimate show at Levi’s Haus in West Hollywood, right off the Sunset Strip. Last night at the Sunset Strip Music Festival, while waiting for another turn at the photo machine outside of The Roxy, I saw Sam Trainer dressed head-to-toe in Civilianaire, the company for which he happens to work.
Having great friends in a city like Los Angeles lead to amazing nights like Wednesday. My dear friend, Hellin Kay, stylist to the stars/fashion editor/photographer extraordinaire, was kind enough to ask me to be her “Plus 1” to Gen Art‘s party for Vena Cava at the famed Chateau Marmont in West Hollywood. As we were waiting for my all-time fave St. Vincent to perform a solo set (I die a thousand times over), I had the pleasure of meeting musician Darian Zahedi, who was double denimed up in a Levi’s jacket and Kill City jeans.
