Before the opening band for Dean Wareham went on at the Roxy last Thursday night, I spotted this Canadian Tux in the crowd. The gent, who preferred to remain nameless, was rocking Wrangler jeans (don’t see those enough) and a Levi’s jacket, complete with a perfectly styled mullet, for which this photo does not do justice.
And if Dean comes to a town near you, do yourself a favor and check him out.
I get so wrapped up in Joanna Stayton’s glitz and glam that I sometimes forget about Annie Proffitt’s more down-to-earth style, including this triple-denim Canadian Tuxedo. And of the many Kurt Russell rocks throughout the movie, this sleeveless number is my fave.

After day five of a 14-day cleanse, I was desperate to go out. So much so, I agreed to go to Barney’s Beanery stone cold sober. Amid the colorful cast of regulars, was Grytt Young from Australia, who refused to be photoed for my blog unless my friend, Kate Schintzius, posed with him. Kate’s gorgeous in grey in a C&C California shirt, Floggs (Clogs with a flip flop sole? Yes, please.) and Lucky Brand jeans – head-to-toe Cali brands. Me likey. Seems like yesterday I was in the LA Style Shoot with Lucky for Hellin Kay’s Champagne and Heels.
I digress …
Saving the best for last: the Canadian Tuxedo. Our new Aussie friend was rocking a denim shirt and waxed jeans form H&M (“I’m a simple guy,” he drunkly explained.), and a tank from Balinese line Zuttion.
The weather cooled off just in time for double denim at the revamped Sunset Strip Market. This season they’re offering tastings from craft breweries and wineries – $16 buys you a tasting glass and set of five drink tickets. At the wine table I saw this Canadian Tuxedo: Levi’s jeans, Earnest Sewn shirt Nike Air Max kicks.
The new market is definitely more food truck-heavy, but you can still pick up some fruits and veggies and holy shit the best thing ever: S’mores from BondBar.
Gah! All that waiting online Friday for passes to Coachella 2015, reminded me I had spotted a few last month at Coachella 2014. I can’t imagine how I could’ve forgotten …
Larry (pictured above) braved the crowds with his broken leg/wheelchair in a Zara jacket and H&M Jorts.
And apparently I ran into Shaun Cruda who’s rocking a Levi’s jacket, H&M top and a Jesus piece (apparently I failed to note who made the shorts) in what looks like the Gobi Tent.
This biker and his pal joined my dog and me in the shade one hot, sunny day in Los Angeles. He’s seen here keeping it real in Levi’s jeans and top, while showing a softer side, bonding with my Yorkie, Rocco.
Designers Lizzie Kroeze of Facing West, and Mark Warburton of Duffy NYC, showcased some interesting denim pieces last week at Amsterdam Denim Days.
